Happy Friday!
Today I’m off to the mountains for a skiing weekend with wonderful friends. Probably last skiing this winter as we all hope for a little more spring in the air now. Nevertheless I’m looking forward to some winter skiing fun and great outdoor activities with friends.
If you are familiar with winter, skiing, specifically downhill skiing and dry indoor winter air you probably know this can be really tough on your skin – so today’s post is all about a wonderful homemade skin salve.
This salve can be used as a salve but also as skin wash. Sounds strange? Washing your skin with a salve?!? To be honest it’s actually one of the best ways to wash your face both gentle and nourishing to the skin.
I love this recipe and am so happy to share it with you. It’s a simple recipe, that anyone can do, it’s easy to make and very effective at healing and hydrating the skin.
Indulgent, reviving, nourishing are some of the words that come to mind when I think about this balm.
I’ve combined two super oils, hemp, and argan because they’re packed with essential fatty acids and proteins the skin needs to heal and flourish.
Hemp Oil is full of hydrating omega-fatty acids and is pretty great for most skin types. It aids the skin in retaining moisture and is used in sun care lotions and balms. I love it because it works really well when the skin is exposed to extreme temperatures. Polar vortex anyone?
Argan oil is a multi-purpose oil that conditions and protects the skin, the sterols and Vitamin E work like a marriage made in heaven, to heal and revitalize.
Beeswax gives the skin this super-duper protective layer and is a wonderful base for ointments, salves, and balms. It has healing properties and has been known to help with burns, inflammation, and bruises. It’s a rich emollient which is amazing for super dry skin, creating a waterproof barrier on the skin.
Shea Butter conditions and smoothes the skin, the Vitamin A content helps to heal the skin from psoriasis, eczema, and blemishes. It’s really good for dry, damaged skin that needs a little pick me up.
💚
To make this recipe come to life, I’ve combined three key essential oils.
Frankincense because its one of the best oils for improving skin tone and treating mature skin.
Bergamot because it has this fruity feel to it, and it reminds me of the sweet smell of flowers. It’s uplifting and calming at the same time.
Cypress because of its cooling feel and evergreen scent.
This balm can be used to cleanse, exfoliate or moisturize the skin.
