God 1. August!
Happy August 1st.
I love the month of August. It’s both summer and early fall.
August always comes with blank, fresh pages to fill in and feels like a fresh start.
I’m having a few days off – like really off. Just recharging, breathing fresh air, enjoying the view, crocheting, planning for new projects, new recipes and new ideas for the blog.
But somehow during my day off I did some shopping that made me kinda excited.
I usually don’t write “shopping related ” articles here on my blog, and this post is not an advertisement (!) I just write about the stuff I found because it made me happy and excited. You probably already know I love sustainable living. For many years I’ve tried to think before buying, don’t buy stuff just to throw it away and contribute to the global pollution, I buy most of my own and my family’s clothes at the thrift shop, we reuse and repurpose…
…we are no saints, we use plastic stuff and occasionally buy plastic bags, we drive old cars and do all kinds of “not-so-sustainable” things, but I believe it will help the global environment if we all try, a little, or do the best we can.
So, on to today’s shopping. I was actually out in the old part of the city to pick up some freshly baked bread at the local bakery and some fruits, herbs and veggies at the Turkish store.
… and yes, I couldn’t resist this awesome basket for my yarn stash ❤️ bought at the local thrift shop (fretex).
I then strolled by one of those little local interior shops… you know these shops with vintage style, lots of candles, plants, plaids, little “this-and-that”… and I was dragged inside just by the style of the shop … I had no plans on buying, just window shopping and soak in all the goodness in there.
Then I stumbled upon some really cool things (in my opinion).
Yes, I know this might be old news, but still – I was really excited to find these super cute and cool palm leaf bowls. I totally love the look and the idea that they are disposable and bio degradable and still they are soo cool. They might even be used over and over again as serving bowls (for for example biscuits, nuts, fruits and so on)
I know these bowls and plates are already used at some larger restaurants, for example at Bølgen&Moi (Norway) as disposable (bio degradable) plates, which is awesome.
So why not give this a try.
I’ll definitely buy some more to have in my camping stash.
Most times I bring my old fashion picnic stuff and need to do the dishes even at the camping…. I kinda love it that way. It always feels better to eat from real hardware than plastic or cardboard plates … so I’ll continue bringing my old fashion picnic suitcase…
but in addition to this – and when we camp out on places with limited water and places to do the dishes, or when it’s “too many” people eating together, I’ll definitely take out my new palm leaf plates and bowls.
Eating together, making meals and enjoying being together is a great part of the van life and vintage camping gatherings, so I guess these palm leaf stash will be a nice and sustainable addition to camping life. 😊
Here are some of my favourites from amazon. Just click on the pictures to get to the store.
Now, have a wonderful August 1st. Hope to see you back soon!
