Today I found the very first ripe, red strawberry in my garden this summer – what could ever make this day any better? The feeling of success, happiness and utter joy when the plants you’ve grown and carefully watered bring you their scencere thanks giving fruits you can eat and enjoy.
So, in order of this event i thought i should just give you a little glimpse into one of my passions and joys; pieces of my garden. Being outdoors is my kind of recharge, fuel up and feel alive and whole. BC of my previous illness the last three years I haven’t been able to do much gardening or growing so this year, when I finally have found my way and the energy to do a little bit of garden passion it feels special and precious.
Now you might be inspired to start your own little home growing project. I really do recommend it – it is good for mental health, self esteem and just the feeling of watching things grow. You don’t need a garden to grow your own veggies or flowers, you don’t even need a balcony ( even if that’s preferable) you just need a container to hold the soil and seeds to sow or plants to add to the soil.
Remember, green plants creates fresh air too – so they are our best environment-friends. 😉
A few years back i planted some cucumber seeds in an old coffee-pot. I let it sit inside my living room window. After a few weeks it was cucumber plant and cucumbers all along my window. That’s the magic of growing.
Here is a avocado my daughter planted 3 years ago. Now it’s almost a little tree.
Most of my garden project this year is just a very tiny area of my garden, I set up with two raised beds I got from my lovely guy, he also brought me the awesome gift of quite a few huge bags of horse poop from the farm. seems like a strange gift of love, but to me it was like gold.. 😀 I filled the poop into my raised beds, over a layer of stones and under a layer of good soil – then i went on planting my seeds and pre-grown plants.
I got a couple of butternut squash plants from a friend, i planted beans, sugar snaps, sunflowers, ruccola salad, strawberries, aubergine ( eggplant), parsley, basil, dill, cellery stalks and in a old tin container I planted red beets. in another one thai basil and peppermint in a container of it’s own. All these are easy plants to grow – no green thumb or extra garden-nerdiness needed. 😉
My garden isn’t expensive or hard to make. I bought some good soil and the raised beds are bought at the garden centre, other things used in my garden are all reuse like old terracotta pots, old, metal washing buckets and my old chair i use to sit and enjoy the view are found in a container.
So if you are inspired and think it’s too late to start now – don’t worry! Its not!! The summer has just begun and if you start now you still have time to enjoy your garden and it’s gifts later in the summer.
For my norwegian friends:
